Ben has worked with animals for many years and it’s always been a labor if love. Most recently Ben served as a pet care technician and adoption counselor for Animal Resource Center (ARC) in Bloomsburg, PA. Prior to that Ben served for 25 years as a high school social studies teacher and varsity soccer/tennis coach for Hatboro-Horsham HS. Although his work in education was predominantly with humans, anyone who had worked extensively with freshmen might be familiar with their animal-like characteristics. In addition to coaching and teaching Ben utilized his position to support several student run efforts to both protect animals and pursue environmental reform. In particular Ben engineered philanthropic efforts for WAGS a nonprofit associated with Horsham Veterinary Hospital. Throughout Ben’s years as a teacher he supplemented his income walking dogs and pet-sitting for friends. As his children grew, the pet-sitting became a family effort, and eventually DoylestownDogs was hatched.
In addition to his experience as an educator, a pet owner, and a parent Ben worked in two different veterinary hospitals as a vet tech, one in Columbia, SC, and one in Hatboro. In this role Ben learned many skills involving pet health and well being, along with cultivating his already strong passion for pet ownership. Please read Ben’s first blog post about his experience in SC as a vet tech.
Ben continues to support the rescue/shelter of animals locally and nationwide. He has personally adopted pets from the Philadelphia SPCA, Almost Home Animal Rescue, Dogtown, Last Chance Ranch, and Animal Resource Center. He shares a deep appreciation and fondness for helping animals down on their luck with the special people who rescue, foster, and adopt animals. DoylestownDogs demonstrates this appreciation by supporting several rescue shelters both financially and through active volunteerism. Please contact DoylestownDogs to discuss your organization/event; we wag to help!
Kym Baldwin is a photographer and an artist from Chalfont, PA. She’s mom to three boys, two cats, and one perfect puppy named Luna. Kym has worked with animals in a variety of different ways including photography, rescue, fostering, training, and pet-sitting. If you’re interested in a photo-shoot for your pets (or family) just ask us. Kym describes all of her past and present pets, including dogs, cats, lizards, bunnies, and hermit crabs as, “happiness.” We’re so happy to have Kym join our family at Doylestowndogs!
“I have NEVER crossed paths with an animal I didn’t like,” says Rachel Griffiths our 17 year old Senior from Central Bucks West HS. Considering Rachel goes out of her way to meet every animal that even comes close to her path the number of friended furries in this young woman’s life is somewhat staggering. She truly does not discriminate, using words like “adorable” and “cuddly” to describe not only animals with fur and feathers, but also with scales and shells. Rachel has been known to snuggle snakes and groom guinea pigs. With your pets she will always be prompt and prepared, because it is her way, as much as it is ours.
Beyond Rachel’s enormous affection for animals she possesses a naturally intuitive personality with pets. She respects and protects their welfare in a manner that is wonderful to witness. She is kind and responsible and fun! In addition to these qualities Rachel is an excellent student, and also a top notch swimmer for CB West and Fanny Chapman. She is also our technician who is most experienced with riding and caring for horses, so please don’t hesitate to inquire about this service.
As a youngster Maggie insisted upon meeting every dog who crossed her path. She meticulously catalogued the dogs she knew, and continued to count every dog she saw at Peace Valley Park for many seasons. She plastered her bedroom walls with animal photographs and boldly proclaimed in permanent markers, “I love animals, and animals love me!” There was nothing fictional about her claim. Maggie is now poised to finish her high school education and is planning to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She’s a motivated and caring young adult with love and laughter to share. Maggie has been employed by Holiday House Pet Resort for over two years, and also busses tables Sunday brunch at The Hattery. She plays volleyball and runs track for CB West and is the founding member of the Bucks Community Games Club. Maggie’s lifelong love for animals shows up in her present work with DoylestownDogs in her future plans to attend Veterinary school.
On Sunday afternoons growing up Sam Winderman would lead us on “Animal Walks,” around the neighborhood we’d proceed with 3 dogs, 2 kids, 1 guinea-pig which later we traded for a tortoise, and 1 cockatiel called Sunny. Each animal had its own special carrying case adorned by Sam with signs of love and nature. Some neighbors looked on with admiration and others with concern, but Sam’s Sunday afternoon animal walks are among my favorite all time memories. Midwalk Sam rested Sunnybird upon a hedge that he’d decided the bird enjoyed, and we’d all take in a moment of quiet stillness. These days Sam’s life moves a bit faster most of the time, but he still always stops to smile at animals. Sam is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, having studied Environmental Science and Urban Planning. Sam continues to spend as much time as he can in nature, along with hours spent on soccer fields and volleyball courts.
Bailey, who is entering her Senior year at Temple University, has been an animal lover all of her life. She grew up with dogs, cats, guinea pigs and even a frog! Beginning at age 12, she would regularly dog-sit for several neighborhood dogs when neighbors would go on vacation. Over the past two-plus years, she has continued to do what she loves… taking care of other people’s pets has helped her earn money for college.
